- List unique criteria with nonnegative weights. Do not use the reserved name Option.
- Match the scores table headers to those criterion names in the same order.
- Score each option from 0 to 10, with higher always better, and calculate.
Reading your result
Weights need not total 100; they are normalized by their sum. Equal highest scores are all named as winners, rather than silently selecting the first.
How this works
Sum score × criterion weight ÷ total weight. Scores range from 0 to 10; higher is better.
Use the units shown beside each field. For monetary amounts, use one currency throughout; calculations do not convert currencies. Results normally display up to two decimal places. Nonzero values below 0.01 use up to six significant digits; values below 0.000001 use scientific notation (for example, 1E-7 means 0.0000001). Rankings use unrounded values, so displayed scores can look equal without being tied. CSV downloads retain numeric precision. Monetary rounding uses half-away-from-zero. Inputs or results beyond supported precision are rejected.
Assumptions & limits
Weights are normalized. For cost criteria, enter a desirability score where lower cost means a higher score.
CSV inputs support quoted commas, doubled quotation marks and quoted line breaks. Headers are case-sensitive; a maximum of 500 data rows and 200,000 characters applies per table.
Results are planning aids based on the values you enter. Check important decisions and documents before using or sharing them.
