FROM INPUT TO ANSWER

Use this tool

  1. List each unique SKU with annual units consumed and unit cost.
  2. Set increasing cumulative A and B percentage thresholds.
  3. Calculate and inspect annual value, cumulative share and class.
WHAT THE NUMBERS MEAN

Reading your result

Items sort by annual consumption value. An item that crosses a class threshold stays in the class where it started, which can put more than 80% in A.

UNDER THE HOOD

How this works

Sort descending by units × cost. Classify using cumulative share before each item; an item crossing a threshold remains in the earlier class.

Use the units shown beside each field. For monetary amounts, use one currency throughout; calculations do not convert currencies. Results normally display up to two decimal places. Nonzero values below 0.01 use up to six significant digits; values below 0.000001 use scientific notation (for example, 1E-7 means 0.0000001). Rankings use unrounded values, so displayed scores can look equal without being tied. CSV downloads retain numeric precision. Monetary rounding uses half-away-from-zero. Inputs or results beyond supported precision are rejected.

Assumptions & limits

Value-based segmentation, not importance or stock-out risk. Exact ties retain input order. Total annual value must be positive.

CSV inputs support quoted commas, doubled quotation marks and quoted line breaks. Headers are case-sensitive; a maximum of 500 data rows and 200,000 characters applies per table.

Results are planning aids based on the values you enter. Check important decisions and documents before using or sharing them.
