- Define non-overlapping shift labels and the number of people needed.
- Use those exact labels in each volunteer’s availability, separated with |.
- Calculate and review assignments and any unfilled places.
Reading your result
Each person appears at most once in a shift, but can work multiple available shifts. Unfilled counts identify shortages; labels do not contain enforceable clock times.
How this works
For each shift, choose available volunteers with the fewest prior assignments, breaking ties by input order.
Use the units shown beside each field. For monetary amounts, use one currency throughout; calculations do not convert currencies. Results normally display up to two decimal places. Nonzero values below 0.01 use up to six significant digits; values below 0.000001 use scientific notation (for example, 1E-7 means 0.0000001). Rankings use unrounded values, so displayed scores can look equal without being tied. CSV downloads retain numeric precision. Monetary rounding uses half-away-from-zero. Inputs or results beyond supported precision are rejected.
Assumptions & limits
Shift labels must represent non-overlapping time slots. No labor rules, skills, consecutive-work limits or invitations. Unfilled places are reported.
CSV inputs support quoted commas, doubled quotation marks and quoted line breaks. Headers are case-sensitive; a maximum of 500 data rows and 200,000 characters applies per table.
Results are planning aids based on the values you enter. Check important decisions and documents before using or sharing them.
